Welcome to Adapt and Thrive, Allianz’s first ever Workers Compensation Virtual National Customer Seminar.
This year we’ve moved to an online seminar format due to COVID-19 restrictions. We’re excited that this brings the opportunity for many of you from a wide range of locations to attend.
Many organisations have responded to the challenges presented by COVID-19 in an extremely agile way, quickly shifting workforces to working from home or implementing new ways of working. This event brings a great opportunity to explore the ways businesses and their people are adapting and thriving in the face of the challenges presented by this new working paradigm.
We hope our thought provoking sessions will assist you and your employees as we all negotiate the unexpected twists and turns which have become the new hallmarks of our workplaces and managing our workforces during 2020.
We discuss changes in employers' responsibilities brought about by our new flexible 'working from home' situation including some unexpected impacts of remote working, from the impact on mental health to the changing nature of online bullying and harassment in the workplace, to shifts in family dynamics.
Adapt and Thrive offers an agenda packed full of relevant, topical subjects presented by inspiring, expert speakers, offered in a series of short sessions spread over three days for you to select from.

Adapt and Thrive – A story of survival in the face of adversity - Gill Hicks, 2005 London train bombing survivor
Gill will describe how, from that instant, her life became a series of conscious choices, of mindfulness and being aware of the importance of the moment. Sharing what she has learnt about herself, about humanity and the extraordinary and what she believes is an inherent ability to not only face, but to rise in the wake of adversity. This is not only an inspiring story, but a valuable insight into what is possible in life.

Whatever you’ve been dealing with in terms of the wellbeing of your workforce, and however you’ve been dealing with it:
- expect to see more people impacted; and
- that you’ll need to do even more.
Why? Because even though most of us do bounce back well most of the time, the pandemic brings with it additional ‘reasonably foreseeable’ psychological risks. The aim of this webinar is to help you understand, anticipate and plan for them.

With more of us are working remotely than ever before, it becomes harder for employers to monitor their employee’s behaviour towards each other. As a result of remote working, we are hearing reports of increased online bullying and harassment. One of these challenges is how leaders are communicating with their teams without the perception of bullying and harassing.
Carly will discuss how we can maintain a safe workplace culture and sense of team when working remotely as well as the legal implications and the impact on the health and well-being of your employees.

During COVID-19 many business leaders have been amazed at how ‘quickly and severely’ their businesses have been impacted and how their role as leader has changed. Some have thrived from the experience – the challenge of how to keep the business going, take care of their teams, look after themselves, maintain support from stakeholders and redesign the business coming out of this unprecedented period. Others are still struggling with how to plan and make decisions with so much uncertainty and navigating the new expectations of them as leaders and the different ways of working being thrust upon them.
Julia will discuss the emerging factors that have determined the success of leaders during this time. She will share how the fundamentals of leadership such as creating and providing direction, clear communication, and continuing to adapt are the key strengths of successful leaders today. And how as leaders, it starts with leading ourselves first.

Panel session: Emerging risk in a post-COVID landscape: Family Dynamics & Working From Home Environments

One of the emerging risks and side effects of COVID-19 is the pressures placed on families and the home environment.
This includes the full spectrum from the alarming rise in people experiencing domestic violence through to the challenges of juggling multiple priorities including work from home, and the eventual need to adapt again to a “COVID-normal” return to your usual workplace These emerging challenges create risks for those who are most vulnerable as well as those who are their employers. Alarmingly, a survey of 15,000 women conducted by the Australian Institute of Criminolgy in July 2020, found almost 1 in 10 have experienced physical or sexual violence while in isolation.
Our panel of expert speakers will discuss how real these risks are and what employers can / should be doing to understand their employee's home environment and how they can offer support.
